Data Scanning / Rekeying
Due to the fact that not all data has been electronically archived, or it has been lost over the months / years, it is extremely common to have to use a mixture of hardcopy and electronic files. SomCom is very experienced with handling hardcopy to scan or rekey.
Projects have ranged from just a few pages to scanning over 35,000 pages.
SomCom generally scans to either PDF or OCR
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Scanning
Using the latest OCR software a document can be scanned, OCR'd and then read / checked to ensure the very highest quality. Often these files then are put through SOMCNV or SOMSORT to add further value to a data manipulation project.
PDF (Portable Document File) Scanning
Not all scanned documents need to be OCR'd, and thus the standard is to PDF scan. SomCom very often incorporates these scans with the output generated from SOMCNV or SOMSORT. For example: An online journal with searchable headers and abstract, with the main article in PDF form. The main article is PDF scanned, however the other elements may have required the use of SOMCNV and SOMSORT.
Rekeying
Occasionally the hardcopy is not suitable for the scanning, in which case rekeying is the only option. Using a team of keyboard operators, SomCom is able to offer a fast and efficient service for rekeying of any number of characters.
